ORDER

DISPOSITION: RATE SCHEDULES SUSPENDED FOR ADDITIONAL PERIOD OF TIME

On October 16, 1998, Northwest Natural Gas Company filed revised rate schedules in Advice No. 98-20 to be effective December 1, 1998. The terms of the proposed schedules were set forth in a Staff Report dated November 2, 1998.

At its November 17, 1998, public meeting, the Public Utility Commission of Oregon found good and sufficient cause exists to investigate the propriety and reasonableness of the rates pursuant to ORS 759.210 and 759.215. The Commission ordered suspension of the advice pending that investigation.

On November 20, 1998, Order No. 98-487 was entered suspending Advice No. 98-20 for a six-month period of time.

The Commission will not have an opportunity to complete its investigation in this case prior to the expiration of the initial suspension period. Accordingly, the suspension should be extended for an additional period not exceeding three months pursuant to ORS 757.215(1).
