| 3/31/2026 2:31:49 PM | Oppose Docket | Shawn | Mahoney | I am getting concerned about the rubber stamping of utility rate increases. As the Utility commission, it is your job to weigh whether the reasons a utility files for a rate increase has merit and should be authorized to occur. In the latest and most current update (effective 4/1/2026 for Pacific Power), none of the reasons given qualified them for a rate increase and the costs should have been absorbed by the company. I am most concerned that I have never found a rate increase denied by your body. You have delayed a couple but once they provided the documentation you specifically requested, another rubber stamp. At some point, we need to have representatives in this commission that know how to just say no. Otherwise, we are going to have some of the highest rates in the region. It's already apparent, even based on the wording that Pacific Power uses, that they know they just have to ask and they will get. Start regulating and representing the citizens that you are supposed to be protecting. You don't work for the electric companies, at least you aren't supposed to. This isn't just happening in Oregon, so you aren't alone...Washington has the same issues. They even approved a PSE increase because PSE bought a power grid and then decided they didn't need it anymore. But their customers got to pay for a company mistake. I am not against rate increases, which is what it sounds like, but they have to be justified. Not just because their shareholders don't want to burden the costs of their mistakes or buy new things they (and we) don't need. |
| 4/6/2026 12:32:16 AM | General Comment | To Whom It May Concern: Greetings. I just learned through the media that our electricity rates are going up yet again. We are Pacific Power customers. We bought our house in 2018, at which time our rates were $0.107 per kilowatt hour. That rate stayed consistent until the fires of 2020, after which rates rose astronomically to over $0.15 per kilowatt hour. Our entire life had to change as a result. Those fires were not our fault. We did not cause those fires. We should not have had to recoup Pacific Power's losses. Upon hearing the news of next week's rates, I pulled up my bill to figure out what that increase would look like for us. As of right now, we are paying over $0.17 per kilowatt hour. This is unheard of. With the rate increases next week, we will be paying $0.177 per kilowatt hour. We use LED's lights for everything, we keep our house cold in the winter and hot in the summer. We're trying to do our part, but with me working from home and us homeschooling our kids, there's only so much we can do to reduce our electricity use. Please reconsider your strategy of punishing consumers for the sins of the monopolies. If they need to fail, let them fail, and take over the existing infrastructure to meet the needs of the populace. Thank you for your time and consideration. | 4/14/2026 1:47:32 PM | Oppose Docket | Raising prices 1-3 times annually is inhumane. Unless these “raises” in utility usage are being directly used towards giving employees, not CEOs, raised to a livable wage, there is no excuse to force multiple annual usage raises on your consumers who have no other option for power. In the last 5 years, you have raised your prices almost 70%. Even if we were following market inflation, a 28% increase over 5-6 years makes sense. Not 70%. Get real, stop lining the pockets of those who make millions a year off the backs of hard working people. I shouldn’t have a $500/month bill on a 1400 squ ft home. We don’t use our heat, we don’t have AC, and we now have to only run our appliances outside of the 5-9pm window in order to keep out costs below $400/month. THIS IS THEFT. |
