While I already believed that to be the case, the recent snow storms in the Portland Metro Area have proven that to be the case even more. I understand extreme weather events happen, and they can’t be prepared for everything. However, these events will continue happening more often, as the planet continues warming with climate change. Instead of spending the money on CEO pay, the companies need to spend it on boosting our infrastructure, such as burying power lines so this won’t happen again. The state or Metro need to take ownership of the two companies and make them into a Public Utility District. Many other cities, including Seattle, have done this and their companies lost less as well as being more reliable and responsive to the community’s needs. Even Clark County, WA across the bridge has a utility district. Put it up to a vote now. | ||
